InterChanging Compressors

Hey Everyone,
My name is Jim. I'm really in to old and new vending machines. (saw that not too many folks made use of the Intro. Forum).

Anyway, I have several machines in need of compressors. With basic soldering and electrical skills, could I substitute a good refrigerator compressor onto a vending machine? I'm sure, theoretically, that it can be done. I'm very good mechanically. I'd like to know if and how anyone has done this before.
