Ok, I hope this will be an easy one. I have a Cornelius Coca-Cola chest type can/bottle vendor. When I plug it in the motor runs but it does not cool. Interestingly, I can hear the gurgling sound of the coolant (I think) after I unplug it. So, I believe it is charged but for some reason it does not cool. The fan works great, and I can feel the air blowing out the back of the unit. What is the problem? I am new at this so maybe I missed something? The thermostat (I think its the thermostat) is set at 7. Does the fan run continually on these units even if it is not cooling?

Cooling problem

From my experience (I have a vintage coke machine in my house), the fan will normally run consistently to keep the mechanical parts cooled down. In other words, so it doesn't become overheated and cause a fire.
As far as the device to actually cool the machine, I'm not sure. If your machine isn't an extremely old model, I would recommend calling up the manufacturer and to see if they can provide you with assistance or a new part.
Snack Machines are expensive. . . but OH SO USEFUL! :D
The fan INSIDE the machine should run all the time. The fan in the back/bottom (outside) of the machine should only run when the compressor is running (to keep the compressor cool and dissapate the heat). If it is running all the time then so is the compressor and if it is not cooling then I would say good chance your compressor is bad :( But before your go and get a new one or get it fixed check to make sure cooling coils inside the machine are not froze up (coverered in a block of ice frozen around the coils) a visual inspection should tell the tail. If they are, unplug machine for 4-8 hours, letting ice melt, make sure water drains out or it will refreeze right away. Then plug in again and see if it cools. It should also cycle (turn on and off) and not run continuously. Check the other post here about diagnosing a bad compressor for more info.

fibberjibber,
I'm going to adress the questions because of the large amount of views. 1."I have a Cornelius Coca-Cola chest type can/bottle vendor" How old of a machine? That will determine if we're dealing with a cold wall machine or evaporative. 2. "When I plug it in the motor runs but it does not cool. Is it the condensor fan motor or the compressor you hear running? They should both run at the same time. Compressor warm or hot to touch? 3. "I can hear the gurgling sound of the coolant (I think) after I unplug it." Usually gurgling when turned off is low freon gurgling when on is to much freon. 4. "The fan works great, and I can feel the air blowing out the back of the unit." Thats the condensor fan and it runs only when the compressor is suppose to run and its running all the time because machine is not cooling. If compressor is running then you are probably low on freon. Just a thought.

I agree that the gurgling is probably an indicator that you have low coolant. But it can also mean your vending machines compressor is bad. Unlikely, but you can always defrost the thing, and then flip it back on. If it's not cooling after a defrost, you probably need coolant.
