Re: Dixie -Narco crushing cans

rbrown,
First I need to know a few things....
Is this a CAN ONLY machine or can it vend CANS AND (20 oz)BOTTLES? It is best if you can tell me the MODEL number. (there is a post over in the photo gallery forum here showing how to find out make and model numbers).
Are these last 2 coulumns single or double columns? (do the cans stack straight up single file one on top of the other OR are they almost 2 cans wide staggered back and forth?)
You say it is crushing the cans? I not sure what you mean, a soda can is under pressure and they don't crush unless they get holes in them. Are they jammed cans (getting stuck cross ways in the mechanism) or are they vending but have holes in them?
Get back to me and I'll have some ideas for you to check.

Re: Dixie -Narco crushing cans

Daryl,
This is what I came up with for a model number(some of the numbers may be different because it's pretty worn):
Model DNCB368MC/216-8 PE2294.When I said the last two rows,it's the bottom two selections on the outside. On the inside of the machine it's the fifth and sixth row (counting from left to right). These rows are located right behind a bar that pivots outward(when it's not locked in place).I loaded the rows with about 24( just to try it )and it vends fine until the stacks get shorter. Then the cans get jammed in the machine.Any suggestions?

Re: Dixie -Narco crushing cans

rbrown,
Ok, you have dixie-narco 368, that's a 2(cans) deep can only machine and your cans are jamming in the single wide columns.
Since they are jamming when the stack is lower(less weight bearing down) it sounds like the ejector strip is bent backward.
TO FIX: Remove all cans. In the bottom of the column there is a half moon shaped half pipe (imagine a 18" long peice of 3" pipe cut in half length wise). make sure it is stopped in the "open up" position (see cross section pic). If not put cans back in and vend one more.
NOW BE SURE TO UN-PLUG THE MACHINE BEFORE DOING THIS NEXT STEP. IF THE MOTOR SHOULD START WHILE YOU ARE DOING THIS - BYE BYE FINGERS!!!
In the bottom of this half moon tube is a 1/2" to 1" wide strip of metal about 2-3" long (black line in botom of vend tube in pic), it is supposed to be laying reasonably flat. If it bent up/side ways/over etc. it needs to be flattened - straighten out with your fingers or plyers as best you can then rub flat with the butt of a screwdriver handle. Reload column being careful not bend strip.

That is the most common cause of jammed cans and keeping the column FULL helps keep that strip flat. If you are still having problems there are couple of other thing to check:
- Be sure the back spacers are brought forward so that there is only about a fingers worth of room between can and front where they enter the bottom area(space tightens up at the bottom 2-3 rows of cans, just below the motor covers and there should be about a fingers woth of room there). To loose = bad, to tight = bad.
- Get down on your back and look up at the metal plates that separate the columns see if they are straight (parallel). Sometimes if an ajoining column gets a jammed can the force can bend the metal plate out into the next column. If you see this is the case bend it back straight.

Finnally just let me say SOMETIMES THE D**N CANS JUST JAM and you can't find a GD reason for it! I had a dixie that did that exact same thing on a single column and after straightening the ejector strip it only did it every 3 months instead of ervery other servicing, oh well....best you can do sometimes.

Hope this helps,
DARYL

Daryl.
Thanks for all the help! The metal strip was bent straight up,and the plates in the back of the machine were way too far back. Now it works like a charm, and everybody at the office is happy to have two more different selections.....And,I still have all eight fingers and two thumbs!
