when coins are put into the machine, the coins go directly to the coin return slot. I have checked the coin return handle to see if it is stuck and it is not. I have a Dixie Narco DNCB 368MC/216-8 PE 2294 machine.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Tina,
I assume you have checked to be sure that power is getting to the machine (the machine is plugged in and that the outlet has power).
I can think of a number of things that can cause this problem: (Note: You may want read the post on vending parts explained for the parts names before reading on.)
1. Check to make sure the coin mech is plugged into the machine.(I know this sounds silly but the jones plug can come loose enough to cut off the coin mech's power). Un-plug and plug in the jones plug.
2. Check for a jammed coin in the acceptor part of the coin mech. Remove the acceptor and open up the little flap/door on the acceptor and visually check for a coin. Also look at the lower coin path (look down in the coin mech).
3. Your machine is single price machine, that means it is wired in series and if a can is jammed in the first column that creates an open circuit and the coin mech will not accept coins. Pull the motors cover off and look at your motors cams they should look like the pic below. The micro-switches should be positioned like the picture (one up, one down in the notch) if not it is stopped in mid cycle and that means a jammed can and open circuit. See the post elsewhere on this forum on how to free a jammed can. Note: you could unload all the cans in the coloumns and look for a jam, BUT a motor could still be stopped in mid cycle for other reasons. So check the micro-switches on the vend motor cams like I said.
(SEE PICTURE BELOW)
4. If none of these are your problem then I would say that possibly your coin mech is bad. Un-plug it and take it to a vending parts supplier they can check it out it for you. If you have a validator I would take it and have it checked also (it is 4 little nuts to unscrew to remove it). If you are located to far from a vending parts supplier there are online stores that will check them for you. Either place should have rebuilt coin mechs for sale.
If none of this works you may have small short somewhere in the machine and that means you need a professional repair tech to look at it. $$$ :(
hope this was helpful,
Daryl
Daryl,
I'm new to the forum, but not new to forums if you catch my drift. I'm a little DIY geek and was having the same problem the OP described. I started searching page by page (no search capability in this forum that I could find) and your expertise in this area got me going again in about 20 minutes. I had a can that got jammed. Thanks for the great advice as it did help me resolve my issue.
