Compressor only works when plugged directly in wall

I have a Dr. Pepper(Vendo) machine that will not cool sodas. All the fans are working , when power is on. The compressor runs in the machine, but will not cool. However, If the compressor is plugged directly in the wall, it cools just fine. I am not familiar enough with the machines to know what part would make it act like that. Any help would be appreciated.

Check thermostat

Vending_Noob72,
Couple of things come to mind:
1. Check your thermostat by turning it all the way off and then slowly turn it up. If it is working you should here as 'click' and your compressor should turn on (or try to). If no click then probably a bad thermostat.
2. You can not run a vending machine off of a long or skinny extension cord. The voltage drop will be to great and your compressor will not turn on. Also you will burn up your compressor if it does start and you run it like that for long. The manual says NO extension cords. But if you have to, use a heavy duty appliance cord (like for an air conditioner). No more than 25' long ever (preferably shorter).

PS: The thermostat on most Vendos is located on the left side under the vend chute towards the back. It doesn't have a knob on it and you use straight edge screwdriver to turn a slot.
