Please see picture attached.
Have had this machine in the family for 12yrs, but stored the past 8 yrs in a garage. New home and now have a place for it again, but experiencing random dispersement of cans.
When stocked, automatically disperses from section 3 as soon as unit accepts quarter-no selection made. Then once section 3 is sold out, the machine will only dispense from section 5 but only if you press the corresponding button. It will not disperse from 1 (or 2) or 4 or 6 at all (it won't even make the clicking sound you usually hear when selecting the button).
Any assistance would be a greatly appreciated.

Seedy88,
It can be two problems, either the micro-switch on motor selection 3 and 5, or the motor brakes on the motors are malfunctioning, usually sticking.
The selection motor brake is supposed to move up and down and stop the motor after a cycle (a can vend) in the correct position, if it is sticking and not stopping the motor (DOWN pointing arrow in pic below) it is usually because of soda build up from spills (busted cans, etc.) OR the little white plastic catch (left side of motor) could also be sticking OR the little spring that is attached to the little white plastic catch's underside is broke and it won't work. UNPLUG! the machine before doing this: If the little spring isn't there or is broken then you need to replace it. If it is there, then clean the motor brake and little white plastic catch with ammonia water (pay special attention to the hinges. A more detailed discussion on cleaning the motor brake is posted here: http://www.vend-resource.com/forum-topic/vendo-480-keeps-vending
The micro-switches (LEFT pointing arrow in pic below) can be tested by unplugging them and checking them with a multi-meter.
hopes this helps,
daryl
First off, THANK YOU Daryl for your response. It give me hope that I will have more than a 500 pount paperweight in my basement.
Now...I have cleaned the brake hinges, but do not have a multimeter to test the micro switch.
BUT, I plugged back in after cleaning and found that when I pressed down on the exposed brass part of the brake on motor#3 (which I assume released the brake) the motor would turn each time, even without additional coins inserted. When I did the same thing on the other motors, nothing would happen.
Can I assume then the problem is with the motor and not the micro switch?
Please advise how I should proceed, and if possible please include a good source to purchase replacement parts.
Thanks so much in advance!
Seedy88,
the motor is not supposed to run when you push down on the brake. It won't do this unless it is getting power, such as the microswitch is out of the cam notch or is stuck on.
daryl
I bought a replacement motor/microswitch assembly for #3 and installed it. (I also bought a replacement relay switch that goes above the coin collector unit, and tried that on a hunch that if there were issues with motor 3 AND 5 then maybe it was more than a single motor/micro switch issue, and maybe it was a signal issue from the relay...I was wrong. I put back the old relay and will keep the other one for spare parts I guess.)
Now, none of the motors respond when I put in a quarter and try to make a selection. And I am still having the same qwerk with motor #3, when I press down on the brass part of the brake and manualy release it, even the new motor turns constantly without a selection, and none of the other motors do that when I manually release their brakes.
Any ideas?
Seedy88, I can think of only 2 things left to try.
1. You may have switched the wiring harnesses to the micro-switches (they are the white connectors in the lower left of the picture in my above reply. You might try reversing their positions, put the inner one on the outer switch and outer one on the innner switch. If it doesn't work it is easy to switch back.
2. All that's left is a wiring problem (short or bad connection) and you will need a repair tech to come out and check the wires, one by one. Sorry :(
daryl
Thanks you sincerely Daryl. I have switched the wires, and I have called around and there isn't a tech in the area willing to work on my machine...I have contacted a moving company with a gun safe dolly to come and take my beloved big red box to the dump next week. :(
Unless someone knows of a company that buys used machines to fix or for parts in the Montana area, I am not only going to loose a conversation piece in my man-cave, but I will also be out about $150 bucks for the movers to take it away...
