Hi, I recently acquired an older dixie-narco 501 machine and it's in pretty good shape and runs well. The only problems I am having are with two of the 8 slots. Both are double wide. One of them when loaded will dispense 2 12oz cans and then jam and pinching one or two cans. The other is trying to dispense, but it seems the motor is slipping and can't quite turn the cam.
I'm as new as they come when it comes to vending machines, so please bear with me.
Any Help is appreciated.
I've attached relevant (I think) photo links.

in them. The wide columns must have two shims on each side of each column. The photo of your motor labeled "jamming" shows that the motor is in it's correct home position and I suspect the jammed cans are due to the missing shims. The photo labled "spinning" shows that the motor is not in it's home position and has moved too far past where it should stop. This issue could be caused by a sticky motor brake. You can try putting a little Windex on the two pivot points of the motor brake then tap the heck out of the brass arm on top of the motor to work the Windex into the pivot points. I'm attaching your photo with labels and arrows showing the brass metal brake actuator is labeled A and the pivot points are labeled B. If this works your motor should now stop in it's home position. If the motor still coasts past the home position or multi-vends then you need to replace the motor.
If you'll contact me by my email button I can send you the shims you need and a motor if needed.
Thanks for the quick response. Good information. I'll give it a try on Monday. I can't however read the text them you place on the photo as it's too small.
Let me know if you can't read it.
Ok, so I installed the shims, all is well with jams. The one motor still is not functioning correctly. I Windexed the pivot points a bit and tapped the actuator, the actuator can move freely. When it comes to vending it wants to vend, but the cam does not turn. Is this still the brake? I can also turn the cam by hand...which doesn't seem right either.
Did the Windex not get worked in enough? Do I need to take some things apart?
Thanks for all your help.
It sounds like you have a bad motor if it isn't turning at all. Does the motor just hum without turning? If so and nothing is jammed in the column then you need a new motor. You can click the Send Email button and let me know if you need one and I can get a motor out to you.
The cam isn't turning. The motor definitely comes on and I can see the small shaft spinning. Nothing jammed in the column. The cam just needs a little nudge to get moving.
However, now I've encountered another problem with another column. Whenever money is put in, it automatically vends from column 1 and nothing else. Could this be a stuck switch somewhere?
This machine seems to have been a bargain price for a reason...
has a bad gearbox and must be replaced. The motor that auto vends column 1 may have a gummed up motor brake as I discussed before, so you should clean that brake and see if that fixes the auto vending.
