A friend just got an Dixie-Narco soda machine for his pool and asked me how to set it to vend for free. A multi-price machine is easy, but his is a single price soda machine, can someone tell me how to do this?

Hello theRS,
On most Dixie-Narco & Vendo single price soda machines made fairly recently (10-40 years old), they used what is called a closed relay. It has a clear plastic case covering the entire relay (see pic below). If yours looks like the pic then refer to the diagram drawing below and proceed as follows:
SAFETY FIRST! Make sure the soda machine is unplugged from the wall and the coin mechanism is also unplugged from the machine.
1. Unplug the vend relay from the socket. It might be stuck, but wiggle & rock it and it should come out. Careful, not to damage the relay or socket or it might not work.
2. You will need a straightened paper clip or safety pin for the next step. Find the wire identified as 71 in the diagram below. Insert your paperclip or safety pin into the small notch under the terminal and carefully apply a downward pressure while pulling on the wire. This will disengage the lock and allow the wire terminal to be removed easily from the socket. After you have it out, tape the end so it won't short out and blow fuse or start a fire.
3. Find wire 10, remove it just like you did with wire 71. Place it back into the socket you removed wire 71 from.
4. Plug in the vend relay, plug back in the coin mech and plug the machine into the wall. Your machine should now free vend.
