My company purchased an older vending machine (not sure of the year or model, but it shouldn't matter) with a Mars MC5800 coin acceptor in it. The vend cost is set at 10c. It accepts dimes and nickels fine, but even if there's enough dimes and nickels in change it refuses to accept quarters. They just dump out into the change slot. It has apparently been exhibiting this behavior since they bought it.
Based on the looking around I've been doing my guess is that the coin acceptor either needs tuning, or one of the coils is burnt out. I wanted to try tuning the acceptor before looking into a replacement, but I can't find the manuals for the MC5800 anywhere - I assume the process involves the rheostats on the circuit board, but I don't want to mess with those willy-nilly and make it suddenly reject everything.
Does anyone happen to have a PDF of that manual, or know where I could buy a physical copy?
Thanks!
that is made worse by the card edge method of connecting the acceptor to the body of the coin mech. You are much better off to simply replace the coin mech with a more current model that does away with the card edge connections. You can send me an email through this post to get pricing for a replacement. I've not searched for, nor seen, a manual for that model of mech and I don't believe there was any field tuning available for it. The newer mechs do have a field tuning method but that was due to their newer technology.
I am having the same problem and would like a price for a replacement. My coin changer has 2 cords that come out the top.
