We have a Vendnet (http://www.vendnetusa.com/) CB700 vending machine at work that recently started to make an absolutely horrific noise. I had it unplugged for the past week and a half and I finally had a weekend to make a video of what I'm hearing so I could share.
Before I ran the machine in this video, I vacuumed all of the dust that I could find on all of the coils and on the fan. I also spent a little time getting the gunk out of the motor by hand, but I did not remove the motor.
What I'd like to know is if the compressor is going bad or if the motor to the fan is the culprit. There was no water in the water tray to speak of, and up until the noises started, the machine would keep the soda nice and cold.
I was in the middle of building a circuit and software to circumvent the keypad and integrate with our company website. It would allow us to sell sodas to the employees (and myself) through our website and validate the purchase/drop with an RFID key fob. However, there is a kink thrown into things if the machine quits working.
Thanks for any help or suggestions you can provide!
Okay well so for anyone who is interested or has the same problem, the issue was definitely the fan.
I removed the fan and let the compressor turn on again and the noise was gone. Although running the compressor without the cooling fan for a long period of time would have been a bad idea, so I replaced it with a similar unit for $70. I bought the replacement from a local electrical motor repair shop. These motors are typically just replaced instead of repaired. One thing that caused me an issue is that they didn't carry the same manufacturer of the motor.
The motor that was originally in my machine was wound for a clockwise spin. The motor I replaced it with was wound for a counter-clockwise spin. The difference is that each manufacturer calls the winding CW or CCW depending on whether you are looking at the motor from the front, or the back. I had to return the first motor that was a CW wound motor because it wasn't spinning the fan blade in the right direction.
And why was I so lazy about removing the fan to begin with? It took about an hour to remove all of the screws and wires in the machine just to reach the darn thing. It was my first time ripping apart a soda machine - but it was fun.
