Hi Folks,
My name is Eric and I am in England.
I saw this machine on eBay a few months ago and was outbidded, it came up again and I was cautious but the seller said they were emigrating hence selling it less than 6 months after owning it.
It works other than it doesnt chill, Compressor runs, fans run, thermostat kicks in, I was assured it did chill when I collected it. But that may have been an untruth.
Q. Any idea what model this is ?
Q. As you will see from the pictures at the back it appears to be missing some items ? Looks like there are electrical connections missing on the compressor, is this an optional relay to stop it when the door was opened ? I also see an Schraeder (cycle) valve which has no home ? (May just be for filling)
What would be the best next steps?
1. Get a tech out to re-gas
2. Get a new compressor ?
3. Is something missing which stops it chilling ?

Reading this is this what I am missing ?
er1c,
Looks like an old Dixie-Narco 180, 5 selection. Also looks like your 3 way switch is missing and it looks like some corrosion. I also don't see a start capacitor.
It won't work without a 3-way switch but you should be able to buy one at a refrigeration supply house, they are not to expensive. Ditto for start capacitor. Either it should come with a wire diagram or they should be able tell you how to hook it up. But be for warned, that it is gone could mean someone already tried that and you might still need a compressor rebuild.

Thanks so much for that, I am hoping it will work, it was quite a character I got it from for not much and as much as I am struggling to find any parts in the UK I am hoping that's the reason he gave up on it.
Is there any chance you can link to a suitable switch/start capacitor in the US I can try and hunt down.
I spoke with a UK vending machine repair chap who suggested whats missing is as per the picture. Sounds like a lot and doesn't mention a switch ?
Thoughts ?
I see a DN400 Refrigeration Deck can be imported.
"The compressor comes with condenser coil, condenser fan, compressor, overload, capacitor, starting coil, running coil, filter/dryer, evaporator coil and is fully charged. Each compressor is checked prior to shipping to get cold within five minutes."
Would that include everything I need ?
I notice no mention of a 3 way switch :(
er1c,
If you buy a Dixie-Narco refredgeration deck it should come assembled with everything you need & you just bolt it in the machine and it plugs into the vending machine.
BUT, there are several models of refridgeration decks each one for different machines. Make sure you talk to your supplier and verify that the deck you buy will fit a Dixie-Narco 180 soda vending machine. I usually take my old ones in & tell my supplier what model machine I have & he gets me the correct refridgeration deck. Since you are in England you will need to verify this on the phone with the supplier.

Sounds like I will need to buy parts separately. The only deck I can see is 110 V not 240 as I am in the UK.
Are the parts I screenshotted above suitable ?
Right I have at last found the compressor seems to be Danfoss and spares are not available, however I can get replacement compressors, but it seems NOBODY wants to touch this with the upgrade from R12 and risks associated with it for less than £1000 which is ridiculous.
Is there not a m ore modern deck I can fit into it ?

That appears to be the same compressor with a more modern deck. My only alternative is to buy a scrap vending machine and scavenge the start/switch/relay
